Your entries and drafts are stored on your device. Journals are not collected by a developer-operated server. Optional Apple location services, backups you export, email support, and website visits are described separately below.
1. Information stored on your device
The app stores journal text, selected emotions and body sensations, drafts, entry timestamps and journal days, and constellation progress in its local app storage. Entries also retain the time zone identifier and UTC offset used to determine their journal day. Preferences store your selected coordinates, city, region and country names, time zone, location mode, and app settings. This information supports journaling, history, constellation and sky calculations, and your chosen experience.
2. Accounts, advertising, analytics, and sync
daylogs has no user accounts or feature that uploads journals to a developer-operated server. The app includes no advertising, behavioral tracking, or developer analytics SDKs, and does not sell or share journals for advertising. It does not use CloudKit sync. Separately, iOS device backup and restoration may operate according to your system settings and Apple services.
3. Location choices and Apple services
Using your current location is optional. With permission, the app requests approximate location while in use to calculate the sky and identify a city and time zone. Automatic location mode may refresh this information when the app becomes active again; it does not continuously track location in the background. You can search for a city instead of granting location permission. City search and resolving a location’s city or time zone use Apple MapKit and geocoding services, which send search terms or relevant coordinates to Apple services. Not every feature is therefore processed entirely on your device or without internet access.
4. Location information in entries
Your selected coordinates and city name are saved in device preferences, not attached to individual entries or included in .daylogs file backups. Each entry’s time zone identifier and UTC offset are retained in the journal and included in file backups. You can change location permission in iPhone Settings or choose another city in the app’s settings.
5. File backups and restoration
When you export a backup, the app creates a password-encrypted .daylogs file containing journal and constellation data using AES-256-GCM. Its encryption key is derived from the passphrase you enter; plaintext backup data is processed in memory. You choose where to save or share the file. The selected file provider controls storage, cloud synchronization, sharing, and retention. Backups include journal time zone information but not your location preferences. Restoring replaces existing journal and constellation data while preserving device preferences.
6. App lock and file protection
The optional app lock uses iOS device-owner authentication. daylogs does not read or store raw biometric data or your device passcode. Journal storage and drafts use iOS file protection; this is not separate database-level encryption. Exported backups rely on file encryption and the security of your chosen storage service.
7. Retention and deletion
Entries remain on your device until you delete them or remove app data. You can delete the current journal day’s entry in the app. For past entries, you can remove text, emotions, and body sensations while dates, constellation links, and other entry metadata remain. Deleting the app removes its app data from the device; offloading the app is different and preserves data. Previously exported backups, file-provider copies, and system backups must be managed and deleted separately. Removing content in the app does not modify an earlier backup.
8. Body sensation notes
Body sensations are subjective notes you enter yourself. daylogs does not read HealthKit data or provide medical diagnosis or health analysis. These notes may contain sensitive personal information, so take care when managing backup files and choosing who can access them.
9. Support and this website
If you contact the support email, your email address and the information you include are transmitted through email services and used to respond. Please do not send journal contents, backup files, or backup passphrases. This information site has no added first-party analytics, advertising trackers, or contact form. The hosting service may process technical information associated with web requests to deliver the site. The app does not send journal data to this website.
